November is National Novel Writing Month

So, are you going to do NaNoWriMo this year?

I plan to.

But I still don't know what to write!

I have about 30,000 words left on my current novel. (The NaNoWriMo goal is 50,000 and you're supposed to start with nothing, rather than the nearly 40,000 words I have written so far.)

Do I put my novel aside to work on something new for a month?

Do I finish my current novel in November and spend the rest of the month finishing or starting other projects?

Or do I try to write two novels simultaneously at the break-neck NaNoWriMo 2000 words per day pace? Hah and double hah.

What to do, what to do?

Whatever I decide, real life friends, please don't be offended that I probably won't be around much until December!

  1. I`m going to try NaNoWriMo again this year. Hopefully it'll go better than the last few years. I have a plot outline of a story I`m eager to write.

All in all, it's your choice what to write. If you want to continue your own novel, then go right ahead. Yea, NaNoWriMo is about writing a story from scratch, but if it`ll help you go ahead and finish this one up, maybe you can work on some short novellas afterward!

  2. I'm doing it again. I am also in the middle of one--only about 13k words in. I'm a little stalled out on it though--more because of lack of time than lack of idea. Nevertheless, I'm starting fresh on a completely different idea.

I figure that after November, I won't want to touch the NaNo effort for at least a couple of months, so I can go back to my current WIP then, and ought to be much fresher. Not letting myself work on it ought to give me lots of ideas about where it should be going.

Good luck in your decision making :)

  3. I'm working on a MS already but am planning to work on a MS for NaNo and the MS as well. Kind of a bonus system. If I have my word count done for NaNo I get to work on my WIP.

  4. I signed up this year for the first time! I'm already thinking about how and when to procrastinate.

I don't have any advice on what to do about your MS in progress, but I wish you all the best whichever way you decide. :-)

  5. Thanks, all. I'm still undecided. And since I just got home from a 1000 mile car trip, I'm too exhausted to think about writing anything, except for a big Good Night.

  6. I signed up for the first time this year. I'm a little uncertain about the whole thing--but I find that I miss creative writing and I think even if I don't produce anything worthwhile, at least it'll get me back in the habit. We'll see.
